Our Animals

Cows

Cows are fairly new to us on the homestead, but so far so good! We have had a blast raising them, and they sure do give us a good laugh.

Brisket

The end goal is that Brisket will live up to his name and become food for our family

Ruby

Ruby hopefully will be used to provide us with future calves on the homestead.

Homestead Pets

Feathers

Initially Feathers got hurt and had to be removed from the laying coop, and nursed back to health. From there, she just never returned to the coop! She became one of the family, and will even follow us around and come when she is called. She stays outside with the cows, but does go back into the coop on colder nights. She certainly has her own personality, and does love to annoy the cows. Feathers is always up to something, and quite often that something is mischief! We love her though, and wouldn't change her for the world.

Rose

Rose (AKA Rosey, Rosey Posey, Rosey Posey Chicken Toesy, and the lists goes on) was our birthday present to our son when he turned 8 years old. She has bonded with the entire family, and has become quite the source of laughter on the homestead. She will do anything for the kids, and will protect them at all costs. We love Rose, and are really glad that she became a member of our family.

Laying Birds

We have several kinds of laying chickens. We also keep a few roosters around so that we can soon hatch our own chicks! In the future we will be adding Turkeys to this category!

Meat Birds

We raise both chickens and turkeys for meat. We primarily have raised Cornish Cross Chickens and American Broad Breasted Turkeys. Soon we will be swithing to a heritage breed of both birds. We have already started with the American Bresse chickens, and are looking to start our turkeys soon! We are still working to determine the best breed of turkey for our needs.

These sure look like little Raptors!

New Arrivals

Our newest arrival is our American Bresse Chickens. This batch will be used hopefully to provide us with hatching eggs, so that we can hatch more. Future hatched chickens will be used for a mixture of laying and meat.

American Bresse Chicks

These little guys have been a blast to raise so far. We can't wait to see them grow up.
